Issue: Increasing complaints of lag in both Midnight and Image reflections. This seems to be more of a problem during event nights.
I’ve included a short version and a more detailed version for those interested in a broader understanding of what our objectives are. Short version is as follows:
Midnight Reflections is now enforcing ‘reasonable’ resource usage from our guests. We’ve discovered that 70% of lag issues are a direct result of 10% of the people, consuming 50% or more of the sims resources. In some cases, a single AV is using enough resources for 8 AV’s.
This is not fare to everyone else at MR… And we’re the ones who must deal with a barrage of complaints regarding the resulting lag. This is not intentional on behalf of guests. Most people are not aware of what resources their AV is using.
How to help us reduce lag:
Look for your ‘Advanced’ Menu at the top of your SL client. Not appearing? Then you need to enable it. Try this: Control+Alt+D The Advanced menu should now appear.
Now do the following:
Click Advanced* -->> Rendering -->> Info Displays -->> Avatar Rendering Cost.
You should see a number appearing above your nametag, as well as that of all nametags of everyone around you. What do the colors and numbers mean?
- Green: 500 to 1000: You’re a model citizen
- Yellow: 1,000 and up: You’re in the Yellow Zone
- Orange: 1,500 and up: You’re approaching unreasonable usage
- RED: 2,000 and up: You’re approaching Resource Hog status
- 5,000 to 8,000: OMG… You’re gobbling up enough resources for 6 to 8 AV’s!!
- 8,000 or more: You’d better get your own sim ---you’re going to need it!
As you can see, lower numbers are obviously better.
######## So what is my Resource Limit? ########
In response to the increasing complaints of lag, Midnight Reflections will begin enforcing a Fair Usage Policy, or FUP. The limits are:
- 1,000 to 1,500 for females if you really want to be kind to your fellow guests, but no more than 2,200 MAXIMUM!
- 500 to 1000 for males --> Maximum 1,250!
How can I fix this?!!!
In short: Start removing stuff and watch the numbers come down.
Basically…. If you’re displaying a value higher than the ones posted above, you’ll be asked to reduce your usage by removing /changing your clothing, jewelry, or hair.
In many cases, it’s one particular item you’re wearing that is responsible for 70% of your excess resource usage. Various types of HUD’s are also know to consume tremendous amounts of additional resources… Penises are perhaps, one of the largest resource hogs. Once you remove the suspect item/s… You can drop as much as 2,000 points.
Remember, that by insisting on porking up your AV with extraneous add-ons will merely add to the very problem you dislike most, which is lag.
